Your Life and Your Health Part 7

Hi,

This is the last post on this topic, your life and your health, and as promised I have a new About Me page.  It should already be up, but if not give it a day. It is scheduled to be published before this post, but you know how technology can be.

Okay, let’s get to it.  You have reached a point where you have decided to change your life for the better.  That is fantastic.

Now the adventure begins.  And now life gets in your way.  This always happens and you have to expect this and prepare for it. 

The main point is you are now started on a journey of improving your life.  Notice I said journey.  A journey takes some time.

And if you see your decision to change as a journey and something that will take some time then you can ride the ups and downs much better.

You can take this journey on your own.  This is harder to do, but it is possible. 

It means you will be your own support team.  And your own answer team. 

For example, what if you think you are doing everything right, but you are not seeing the results you want?

If you are expecting to look like a gymnast in 10 days then I would say give it some more time.

Maybe some of the foods you are eating have caused some inflammation in your body and this will take longer to overcome. 

What do you do if an exercise(s) cause you pain?  What can you substitute?

If you go it alone, you will have to do all the research and handle all the ups and downs by yourself.

I think there is a better way.  You can hire a coach or personal trainer.  Now the problem is that you have to find someone that knows their stuff.  And I can almost guarantee that you won’t find it at your local chain fitness club. 

Most of the credentials spouted by the fitness industry are credentials you can buy.  You have to join an organization, pay your money and voila you are a fitness expert. 

I don’t have any of those credentials.  I got my education in Physical Education from U of Wisconsin, Madison (BS) and U. of California, Berkeley (MA).  So at the very least I did spend several years learning my stuff.

About now you might be thinking I am going to try to sell your something.  Sorry to disappoint.

I am working on a health and fitness system right now.  This will include several pillars.  The first pillar is focused on your diet. 

As you have read in previous posts, you need to coordinate your diet so that your body and its hormones align to burn fat.  This is something quite doable for everyone. 

There are a few pillars on fitness.  That is because there are indivduals at different levels of fitness.  Some people can do 20-30 pushups, others can’t do one. 

Almost every fitness program out there, including the ones that say they have programs for beginners, totally ignores those that have never exercised or haven’t exercised in years. 

And how can you expect a person that is 150 pounds overweight to do the same exercises as someone who is only 20 pounds overweight.  You can’t.

But, you can make progress.  You can learn how to do pushups, but you don’t start by getting down on the floor and pushing with all your might.  

There are also fitness programs for those that are going for it all.  There will be exercises that even the most advanced people will struggle to do.

Then there is the mental and spiritual pillars.  If your body, mind and spirit are not aligned to forge a new you, then you will not only struggle more, but you will probably fail.

Think of it like this.  If you take away one of the posts of a wheelbarrow, it is going to fall over.  If you take away the wheel, it is going to be really hard to get any where.

You need the posts and the wheel to make your journey easier.  You still have to lift and push the wheelbarrow, but at least it is doable if you are in alignment. 

Then there is the support pillar.  This is the ongoing part and the community part of this system.  Study after study has shown that those that have a support group perform much better in any task.

And isn’t that what you want?

Maybe you need to lose 150 pounds.  Maybe you just want to lose a little body fat for a competition.  Maybe you need to gain some strength.

Maybe you are just tired of being complacent.  You might have let the bad habits creep in.  Now it is time to kick them out and keep them out.

A support group will help you.

As you can see this is a pretty ambitious effort.  But, it is a necessary one.  There are very few programs out there that combine all these elements and will guarantee your the results you want.
