Hi,

Okay, let’s continue this lose body fat or lose weight series.

Last post we mentioned some of the hormones that you should be concerned with in your goal to burn body fat.

As mentioned those weren’t all the hormones in the body, but they are important ones. Go let’s get started.

There are two hormones primarily concerned with controlling hunger. They are ghrelin and leptin.

Ghrelin is the hormone that tells you you are hungry and you better eat.

If you try to ignore this hormone it just gets stronger. It becomes almost impossible to ignore just by your will power alone.

If you keep ignoring it, eventually when you give in you feel famished – like you haven’t eaten for days. And you will usually eat too much at your next meal.

Leptin, on the other hand has the opposite effect. Remember when it was mentioned that your body’s hormones are playing a balance game.

Keeping your body in balance so that it functions properly is the key to a healthy life.

So leptin signals your body when it is full. And it also helps in raising your metabolism to help burn more fat.

So if these two hormones are in balance then you should be at a pretty ideal weight. Now you might think that it would be hard to gain weight if everything is working okay.

And what if you found out that obese people have very high levels of leptin. How in the world could they gain weight then?

The problem is that you can become leptin resistant, just like you can become insulin resistant.

When you become leptin resistant, leptin doesn’t function properly and you will eat and eat as if you are starving every day.

So how do you become leptin resistant? For some people it is a problem of chemical imbalances.

Also overfeeding will cause leptin levels to rise. This is like a vicious Catch 22.

You overeat and leptin levels rise. If you continue overeating leptin levels keep rising. As this happens leptin gets desensitized and doesn’t work as efficiently.

As it stops working you will have more of a tendency to overeat. This is not a good merry go round to be on. Fortunately there are ways to naturally lower your leptin levels if they are too high.

And there are ways to blunt your ghrelin levels.

We will see how all of these work together as this series on lose body fat or lose weight continues.
