Hi,

I got a post about Calotren the other day and the person was asking about trying it because friends had recommended it and it had no side effects and it couldn’t hurt.

I thought the person was asking my opinion, but then I realized from the email address that they were promoting the product.

Well, I am going to give my opinion of it anyway.

Before yesterday I had never heard of the product.  So I went to their website and checked it out.

After a couple of minutes I realized it was nothing but junk.

I thought I would give you an idea of what I went through to help you make your own evaluations of any kind of supplement product.

Calotren has a home page and an ingredient page.

They claim that their product is an all natural protein product that works as a nutritional supplement to burn body fat.

By supporting the protein in your muscles it somehow miraculously helps your body burn body fats and sugars.

“Its effectiveness is based on the special protein formula which is actually basic to body structure ( I thought the bones were basic to body structure)  and is actually the most prevalent protein in the body – accounting for almost 30% of all protein.”

That is a direct quote from their home page and it makes absolutely no sense.

But what they are trying to say is that they have this protein formula that will support your bones and muscles so that you will burn more fat and sugars.

Gee, if only it were so easy.

The rest of the home page says basically the same thing over and over again.

Now, let’s go to the ingredients page.  The list of ingredients is:

Liquid: Oxygenated water, Collagen Hydrolysate (Bovine Source), Aloe Vera, Glycerin, Potassium Sorbate, Natural Raspberry Flavoring, Methyl Paraben.

Capsules: Collagen Hydrolysate (Bovine Source), Aloe Vera, Vegetable Glycerin.

Other Ingredients (Capsule): Gelatin, Magnesium Stearate, Stearic Acid and Microcrystalline Cellulose.

So my first question is, where is the protein?  The collagen hydrolysate has most of the amino acids necessary to be considered a full protein source, but collagen is more important for your joints.

Other that that there is nothing else in the product that is going to help you lose body fat and sugars.

And there is nothing at all in the product that will give you enough protein to even come close to helping you burn fat.

Eating more protein, like regular food protein, will raise your metabolism a bit because it is more work for the body to digest it.

But poping a pill or drinking a liquid drink with some protein negates that effect.

And, surprise of surprises they do not list the amount of protein in this miraculous product.  That is a clue.

Will this product hurt you?  Probably not.

Will Calotren help you lose weight, build up your muscles and bones and burn body fat and sugars?  Definitely not.

Any time you read about or hear about any kind of supplement, just do a little research.  Ask yourself, where is the proof?

Do their statements even make sense?  For terms you don’t understand, just check Wikipedia to start with.

Check the ingredients.  Can the ingredients do what the marketing says they can do?

This doesn’t take long – a few minutes – and it will make you a more informed shopper and save you from scams like Calotren.

If you don’t want to spend the time doing any research, leave that to me.  Just keep reading this blog.

Thanks

Oh, I almost forgot.  Here is the link if you want to go see their website:  http://www.calcompnutrition.com/calotren.html
